Emission Spectroscopy in Optically Thick Gas Discharges

Information on the processes occurring in a gas discharge can be obtained from the spectral lines emitted by the plasma (see f.e. Refs. 1–5). A line may be optically thin (optical depth much less than unity) or optically thick (optical depth much higher than unity).
