Mechanism for Optical Enhancement and Suppression of Fluorescence
The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2009When fluorescence from electronically excited states follows the absorption of radiation, the emission spectrum is often a key to identification of the excited species. It now emerges that passing off-resonant laser light through such an electronically excited system may enhance or suppress the fluorescent emission.

The use of intense optical radiation to stimulate the oxidation of silicon is described. By summarising all of the data published so far in the field, it is found that there must be several different mechanisms responsible for the observed effects on the oxidation process.

Display resolution enhancement with optical scanners
Applied Optics, 2001We have developed a novel, low-cost, and effective technique for display resolution and fill-factor enhancement. By using optical scanners with fast nematic liquid-crystal polarization switches and birefringent materials, we have increased the perceived pixel count of a low-resolution display and also its display fill factor.
