Feasibility of giant fiber-optic gyroscopes [PDF]
The availability of long-distance, underground fiber-optic links opens a perspective of implementing interferometric fiber-optic gyroscopes embracing very large areas. We discuss the potential sensitivity, some disturbances and approaches to overcome them.

Fiber distributed feedback laser [PDF]
Utilizing round optical fibers as communication channels in optical communication networks presents the problem of obtaining a high efficiency coupling between the optical fiber and the laser. A laser is made an integral part of the optical fiber channel

Fiber Based Multiple-Access Optical Frequency Dissemination [PDF]
We demonstrate a fiber based multiple-access optical frequency dissemination scheme. Without using any additional laser sources, we reproduce the stable disseminated frequency at an arbitrary point of fiber link. Relative frequency stability of 3E10^{-16}

Understanding and measuring mechanical signals in the tumor stroma
This review discusses cancer‐associated fibroblast subtypes and their functions, particularly in relation to extracellular matrix production, as well as the development of 3D models to study tumor stroma mechanics in vitro. Several quantitative techniques to measure tissue mechanical properties are also described, to emphasize the diagnostic and ...

Study on the Design and Performance of a Glove Based on the FBG Array for Hand Posture Sensing
This study introduces a new wearable fiber-optic sensor glove. The glove utilizes a flexible material, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), and a silicone tube to encapsulate fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs).

Optimal coupling of entangled photons into single-mode optical fibers [PDF]
We present a consistent multimode theory that describes the coupling of single photons generated by collinear Type-I parametric down-conversion into single-mode optical fibers. We have calculated an analytic expression for the fiber diameter which maximizes the pair photon count rate.

Fiber-Optic Chemical Sensors and Fiber-Optic Bio-Sensors [PDF]
This review summarizes principles and current stage of development of fiber-optic chemical sensors (FOCS) and biosensors (FOBS). Fiber optic sensor (FOS) systems use the ability of optical fibers (OF) to guide the light in the spectral range from ultraviolet (UV) (180 nm) up to middle infrared (IR) (10 μm) and modulation of guided light by the ...
