Optical frequency domain reflectometry for aerospace applications
SPIE Proceedings, 2017Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry (OFDR) is the basis of an emerging high-definition distributed fiber optic sensing (HD-FOS) technique that provides an unprecedented combination of resolution and sensitivity. We examine aerospace applications that benefit from HD-FOS, such as for defect detection, FEA model verification, and structural health ...

Real-Time Optical Frequency-Domain Reflectometry
2007 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO), 2007In this paper, we propose and demonstrate an ultrafast optical frequency domain reflectometry system based on real-time optical Fourier-transformation. Interferograms are captured over 50 ns time windows at a 20 MHz repetition rate with a 70 mum depth resolution.

Time-domain slicing optical frequency domain reflectometry
Optics LettersA time-domain slicing (TDS) optical frequency domain reflectometry is proposed for large strain sensing with better spatial resolution. Compared with the conventional frequency domain slicing (FDS) method, the TDS with a Burg spectrum estimation is capable of enhancing the similarity of a local spectrum under large strain and mostly suppressing the ...

Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry with Synthesized Frequency Sweeping Technique
Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2016We develop a synthesized frequency sweeping technique to realize high spatial resolution using multiple small range sweeps for OFDR system. The principle of synthesized frequency sweeping is explained in theory and demonstrated by experiment.

Optical correlation-domain reflectometry without optical frequency shifter
Applied Physics Express, 2016Abstract To achieve distributed reflectivity measurements along an optical fiber, we developed a simplified cost-effective configuration for optical correlation- (or coherence-) domain reflectometry based on a synthesized optical coherence function using sinusoidal modulation.

Optical Coherence-Domain Reflectometry by Use of Optical Frequency Comb
Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics 2010, 2010A novel optical coherence domain reflectometry (OCDR) by use of an optical frequency comb source is proposed and demonstrated with high spatial resolution ( 45 dB), and short measurement time (≤10 s).

Polarization effects in coherent optical frequency-domain reflectometry
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 1996Polarization effects in coherent optical frequency domain reflectometry were evaluated. The use of a polarization average procedure completely eliminated these effects, giving rise to a measurement accuracy of 0.27 dB for an arbitrary polarization vector of the detected signal, without making use of polarization diversity receivers, which are not ...

High-resolution optical frequency domain reflectometry
Optical Fiber Communication, 1991Optical time-domain reflectometry (OTDR) is a widespread and commercially successful technique for performing several types of measurements on fiber-optic networks and components. An alternative method, also in widespread use, is optical frequency-domain reflectometry (OFDR).

We propose an optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR) with the assistance of a dual electro-optic frequency comb (EOFC), which is intended to improve the system spatial resolution. As the spatial resolution of an OFDR system is inversely proportional to the frequency sweep range, the EOFC acts as a multi-frequency light source for collecting ...
