Coherent optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR) using a fiber grating external cavity laser
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 1994Recently fiber gratings have been applied to numerous applications in lightwave technology. We demonstrate a coherent optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR) using a fiber grating external cavity laser and coherent heterodyne detection. The fiber grating external cavity laser, which serves as the source, is very robust, compact, and free of ...

Monitoring carbon dioxide (CO2) for carbon capture, gas pipelines, and storage as well as early detection of CO2 leakage is important to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and have a high atmospheric concentration for a long lifetime. Moreover, the main cause of the corrosion in natural gas pipelines is owed by CO2.

Abstract We study the effects of the semiconductor laser noise on the generated beat signal, in Coherent Optical Domain Reflectometry device. By using a general laser noise analytical model, based on Volterra non-linear treatment of laser rate equations, we find a novel general expression of the beat photocurrent.

A soil-embedded optical fiber sensing cable is evaluated for an embedded cavity detection and sinkhole warning system in railway tunnels. Tests were performed on a decametric structure equipped with an embedded 110 m long fiber optic cable. Both Brillouin optical time-domain reflectometry (B-OTDR) and optical frequency-domain reflectometry (OFDR ...
