Image distance transforms that use optical correlation
Applied Optics, 2000The image distance transform is a time-consuming global operation. We use optical correlation for the fast computation of binary image distance transforms. A joint transform correlator is proposed to implement the algorithm that accommodates the morphological threshold-decomposition concept.

Optical Correlator based Image Classifier
JSAP-OSA Joint Symposia 2018, 2018In data recognition systems with large capacity databases, it is very important to improve the speed of the identification process. Recently, a system with dedicated hardware based on field-programmable gate array was proposed for speeding up this operation [1], and there is a high expectation for further high-speed verification.

Optical implementation of color image correlation
Optics Communications, 1997Abstract In contrast to a conventional optical matched filtering system, which converts scalar information of objects into an intensity distribution of coherent light using the so-called incoherent-coherent converter, a new matched filtering system that uses a complex amplitude modulation device and a reference wave is proposed in this paper.

Multisensor image registration and optical correlation
SPIE Proceedings, 1999We present several approaches for visible and infrared video image sequence registration, useful for image fusion, target detection and recognition. Feature inconsistency and low contract and noise in the infrared image background consist of the principle difficulty in the image registration for the well separated spectral bands visible and IR images ...

Incoherent Electro-Optic Image Correlator
Optical Engineering, 1984A real-time optical image correlator is described. An acousto-optic device and an array of light-emitting diodes are the electronic-to-optical transducers for the input and reference images, respectively, in this architecture. The two-dimensional correlation is formed by temporal integration on a two-dimensional CCD detector.

Biopolymer-based material used in optical image correlation
Applied Optics, 2008We investigate the possible application of a modified deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)-dye system for dynamic processing of optical information, e.g., optical correlation. The system consists of a biopolymeric matrix made of DNA substituted with the cationic surfactant molecule cetyltrimethyl-ammonium chloride (CTMA) and doped with a photochromic Disperse ...

Image Velocity Sensing by Optical Correlation
Applied Optics, 1966The technique of measuring the velocity of a moving image by means of a parallel-slit spatial filter is treated as continuous optical correlation processing. This technique is compared with other approaches to measuring image velocity by correlation and is shown to be a special case where the image displacement necessary for the correlation measurement

Images of the optic nerve: anatomic-CT correlation
American Journal of Roentgenology, 1980The course of the intraorbital part of the optic nerve, as demonstrated on anatomic sections in various planes, is correlated with the appearance of the nerve in computed tomographic (CT) images. Discrepancies between the anatomic and CT appearance are analyzed and discussed.

Image restoration using optical correlation
Proceedings of the IEEE 1998 National Aerospace and Electronics Conference. NAECON 1998. Celebrating 50 Years (Cat. No.98CH36185), 2002An efficient technique for restoring the original from a blurred image using the concept of fringe-adjusted joint transform. Correlation is proposed. This technique employs Fourier plane apodization using the reference image power spectrum to deblur the distorted image.

Optical correlation-based cross-domain image retrieval system
Optics Letters, 2017A novel cross-domain image retrieval system that is based on a high-speed optical correlator with a coaxial holographic system is presented. Our newly designed conversion module for the optical correlator allows various kinds of data to be converted to pagedata with a uniform optical intensity by using an autoencoder, which is difficult with other ...
