Strain monitoring of tapestries: results of a three-year research project [PDF]
The outcomes of an interdisciplinary research project between conservators and engineers investigating the strain experienced by different areas of a tapestry are described. Two techniques were used: full-field monitoring using digital image correlation (

Optical correlators for automated rendezvous and capture [PDF]
Two dimensional image correlation is a robust technique for recognizing known objects and determining their position with respect to the sensing platform. This capability is of paramount importance to vehicles which must rendezvous and capture using only

Microchannel plate cross-talk mitigation for spatial autocorrelation measurements
Microchannel plates (MCP) are the basis for many spatially-resolved single-particle detectors such as ICCD or I-sCMOS cameras employing image intensifiers (II), MCPs with delay-line anodes for the detection of cold gas particles or Cherenkov radiation ...

Teaching the concept of convolution and correlation using Fourier transform
Convolution operation is indispensable in studying analog optical and digital signal processing. Equally important is the correlation operation. The time domain community often teaches convolution and correlation only with one dimensional time signals ...

Three-dimensional optical correlator using a sub-image array
A three-dimensional optical correlator using a lens array is proposed and demonstrated. The proposed method captures three-dimensional objects using the lens array and transforms them into sub-images. Through successive two-dimensional correlations between the sub-images, a three-dimensional optical correlation is accomplished.

Optical image correlation using acoustooptic and charge-coupled devices [PDF]
An optical processing method is presented which allows the correlation of two images to be computed in real time with a 1-D acoustooptic spatial light modulator as the input device. Two-dimensional processing is accomplished by a combination of spatial and temporal integration.

Impact of lens autofluorescence and opacification on retinal imaging
Background Retinal imaging, including fundus autofluorescence (FAF), strongly depends on the clearness of the optical media. Lens status is crucial since the ageing lens has both light-blocking and autofluorescence (AF) properties that distort image ...
