Spatio-temporal Video Re-localization by Warp LSTM

open access: yes, 2019
The need for efficiently finding the video content a user wants is increasing because of the erupting of user-generated videos on the Web. Existing keyword-based or content-based video retrieval methods usually determine what occurs in a video but not ...

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

Superfluid and insulating phases of fermion mixtures in optical lattices

open access: yes, 2007
The ground state phase diagram of fermion mixtures in optical lattices is analyzed as a function of interaction strength, fermion filling factor and tunneling parameters. In addition to standard superfluid, phase-separated or coexisting superfluid/excess-

All-optical packet routing scheme for optical label-swapping networks

open access: yesOptics Express, 2004
A novel scheme for all-optical label reading and packet routing is proposed. The architecture is comprised of all-optical logic XOR gates and all-optical flip-flops based on single Mach-Zehnder interferometers incorporating semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA-MZIs). The simulation results show that a very small penalty (less than 0.45 dB) for 10 Gbit/

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Rotating Nuclear Rings and Extreme Starbursts in Ultraluminous Galaxies

open access: yes, 1998
New high resolution interferometer data of 10 IR ultraluminous galaxies shows the molecular gas is in rotating nuclear rings or disks with radii 300 to 800 pc.

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Learning Deep and Compact Models for Gesture Recognition

open access: yes, 2017
We look at the problem of developing a compact and accurate model for gesture recognition from videos in a deep-learning framework. Towards this we propose a joint 3DCNN-LSTM model that is end-to-end trainable and is shown to be better suited to capture ...
