Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Numerical analysis on optical limiting performance of a series of phthalocyanines for nanosecond pulses

open access: yes, 2012
The optical limiting properties of a series of peripherally substituted phthalocyanines with different central metals and axial chloride ligand for nanosecond pulses have been studied by solving numerically the two-dimensional paraxial field equation ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Non‐linear optical limiting technology based on backward stimulated Brillouin scattering in grade‐index optical fibres

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 2021
An effective non‐linear optical limiting technology is proposed here based on backward stimulated Brillouin scattering in grade‐index optical fibres. The excellent non‐linear optical limiting performance is experimentally verified by using 0.5 and 1 m ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Enhancement of Broadband Reverse Saturable Absorption of Red/Black Phosphorus Heterojunction

open access: yesMolecules
Although laser technology brings convenience to production and daily life, it also causes high-energy damage. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop optical limiting materials for laser protection. In this study, a novel nonlinear optical material,

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Optical Limiting In Media With Absorbing Microparticles

open access: yes, 1989
We have characterized the nonlinearities observed in suspensions of carbon black particles in liquids (CBS). We have developed a preliminary explanation of the optical limiting characteristic of the CBS that qualitatively explains the low thresholds ...

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

Two-photon absorption study with coupled mode formalism

open access: yesJPhys Photonics
Optical limiting devices employ two photon absorption (TPA) in materials for sensor and eye protection. To be able to reduce the intensity threshold for protection, cavity structures can be considered.
