Optical Filtering of Aeromagnetic Maps
Applied Optics, 1974An optical processor has been used to filter aeromagnetic contour maps in order to obtain information on underground magnetic ore deposits. This was accomplished by directional filtering of the spatial Fourier transform of the contour map. The directional filtering yields maps of gradients having given directions.

Abstract An optical technique for performing general types of map transformations is introduced. Using a coherent system, the object distribution is multiplied by a phase function so that its frequency spectrum constitutes the transformation wanted. Also shown is how imaging systems can be made space variant.

Potential mapping of optical tweezers
Optics Letters, 2011Optical tweezers are very often used for measurement of piconewton range forces. Depending on the displacement of the trapped bead, the trap may become stiffer which causes considerable underestimation of the measured force. We have shown, both by theory and experiment, that such a stiffening occurs for beads larger than 0.5 μm in radius. For the first

Genomics via Optical Mapping II: Ordered Restriction Maps
Journal of Computational Biology, 1997In this paper, we describe our algorithmic approach to constructing ordered restriction maps based on the data created from the images of population of individual DNA molecules (clones) digested by restriction enzymes. The goal is to devise map-making algorithms capable of producing high-resolution, high-accuracy maps rapidly and in a scalable manner ...

Optical field mapping using single-mode optical fibers
Applied Optics, 1978A new method of measuring the complete optical field distribution (optical field mapping) is proposed and is applied to the measurement of Gaussian beam distribution at its beam waist. This method utilizes an interference technique and uses two single-mode optical fibers as flexible paths.

Holography can be used for arbitrary, parallel, weighted mappings between planes with up to to 106 pixels each at I/O limited rates. This allows precalculated mappings to occur at very high speed. The applicarttions for one-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-one, and many-to-many maps are explored here.

Parallelism maps for optically contacted etalons
Applied Optics, 1981A measurement technique is described that is capable of producing accurate numerical maps of the parallelism defect of optically contacted Fabry-Perot etalons. A photoelectric raster scan of the etalon transmission intensity distribution is performed at each of three closely spaced etalon tunings, one at maximum on-axis and two at the half-maxima on ...

Optical trapping map of dielectric spheres
Applied Optics, 2013Many applications use a focused Gaussian laser beam to manipulate spherical dielectric particles. The axial trapping efficiency of this process is a function of (i) the particle radius r, (ii) the ratio of the refractive index of particle over the medium, and (iii) the numerical aperture of the delivered light beam.

Abstract : This report describes the support services provided by Keo Consultants to the operation and improvement of the All Sky Imaging Photometer on the NKC135 Airborne Ionospheric Observatory. It describes two new intensified camera systems constructed for the ground-based support of the airborne measurements and gives examples of the data obtained.
