Elasto-optic polarization measurement in optical fiber
Optics Letters, 1981A method is described for the nondestructive determination of the state of polarization of the guided light at an arbitrary point along a single-mode fiber. The fiber is squeezed laterally with a small, periodic (75-Hz) force. The azimuth of the force is varied.

Optical measurement of aero-optics
OSA Annual Meeting, 1993Optical measurements of aerodynamically induced optical degradation have evolved over the last few decades from commerical optical testing instruments to specialized aero-optic diagnostic systems. New diagnostic systems feature vastly increased temporal and spatial resolution and accuracy.

ON THE OPTICAL MEASUREMENT OF CORNEAL THICKNESS
Acta Ophthalmologica, 1971The optical measurement of corneal thickness based on oblique viewing of the optical section of the cornea is complicated by the finite width of the incident slit beam. In this report the theoretical and practical aspects of the effect of the slit width on the thickness reading are analysed.

Measurements of optical tweezers stiffness
Hybrid and Novel Imaging and New Optical Instrumentation for Biomedical Applications, 2001We report an experimental study of the trapping efficiency of an optical tweezers system acting on spherical polystyrene particles in water solution. As force calibration method we used the viscous drag exerted by fluid flow. A parametric study of the efficiency of the trap was made as a function of bead diameter and objective NA. Optical tweezers were

In the following sections, we shall discuss a variety of field and laboratory measurements on telecommunication fibers, largely excluding sources, detectors and electronics. Certain of these measurements, especially bandwidth and attenuation, will often yield different results for different launching conditions.

Optical measurements of magnetophoresis of macromolecules
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1998We investigated the magnetophoreses of two types of proteins, a sugar polymer and DNA, using an optical transmittancy measurement system and field gradients in an 8 T superconducting solenoid. A magnetophoresis quartz chamber was filled with an aqueous solution, and then placed in the superconducting magnet's bore.

Optical technique for particle measurement
Optics Letters, 1991A novel overlapping optical field technique that transforms an optical field of Gaussian intensity into one with uniform intensity is described. Comparison of calculated and measured results demonstrates that a highly uniform optical field in one transverse dimension with efficient utilization of optical energy can be obtained by using the overlapping ...

Optical Pachometry Measurements
Optometry and Vision Science, 1984ABSTRACT Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) lenses of known thickness were measured by one investigator with a pachometer. This experienced pachometrist held variation in thickness measurements to within 1% over time. The measurements were repeatable with a SD less than 1%.

Ophthalmoscopic Measurement of the Optic Disc
Ophthalmology, 1995The authors evaluated whether the optic disc dimensions can be measured directly by ophthalmoscopy without the use of a fundus camera or special ophthalmoscope. The horizontal and vertical disc diameters were measured ophthalmoscopically in 158 eyes of 95 subjects using a standard Goldmann three-mirror contact lens and a commercial slit lamp with ...
