This paper presents the case of an optical phased array in analogy with its counterpart in the microwave frequency region. It consists of a planar aperture array formed by the discrete illuminated core ends of a number of monomode optical fibres placed adjacent to each other in several rows.

Sparse Optical Phased Array Design
2019 IEEE 16th International Conference on Group IV Photonics (GFP), 2019We propose a scalable, low fill factor, optical phased array design based on sparse arrays, relaxing the sub-wavelength antenna pitch requirement for sidelobe suppression, achieving significantly lower beamsteering power consumption than a uniform array.

Integrated optical phased arrays for optical trapping
Adaptive Optics and Wavefront Control for Biological Systems VII, 2021In this paper we propose and simulate a design for an optical phased array that can produces spot sizes small enough to be used in optical trapping processes in a micro-scale. Furthermore we attempt to combat the large grating lobes that are characteristic of optical phased arrays via an optimized non-uniform spacing profile of emitter elements.

Optically Controlled mmW Phased Arrays
SPIE Proceedings, 1987A design for an optically controlled millimeter wave phased array is explained. In this design, the millimeter waves are carried on an optical carrier, so no millimeter waveguides are necessary.

Optical phased array nanoantenna link
2013 Conference on Lasers & Electro-Optics Europe & International Quantum Electronics Conference CLEO EUROPE/IQEC, 2013In the radiofrequency domain wireless signal transfer with antennas instead of cable connections has led to a plethora of new applications. In the optical regime, however, free-space signal transfer on the nanoscale using plasmonic antennas has so far only been proposed theoretically [1].

Optically Controlled Microstrip Phased Arrays
2005 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics, 2005We propose here to apply the technique of the optical control of microwave devices to perform phase-shifting for microstrip phased arrays. The physical principle used is the photoconductive effect which enables the creation of a variable microwave load, when a gap in a line is illuminated with an optical signal of adequate wavelength. This principle is

Optically controlled phased antenna arrays
2000 10th International Crimean Microwave Conference. "Microwave and Telecommunication Technology". Conference Proceedings (IEEE Cat. No.00EX415), 2000This paper reflects the state-of-the-art and future perspectives of a new and rapidly growing field, dealing with fiber-optic and optoelectronic technology application for ultra wide band control of phased antenna arrays, radiating in microwave and millimeter wave frequency bands.

Optically controlled phased array radar
International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics. MWP '96 Technical Digest. Satellite Workshop (Cat. No.96TH8153), 2002The experimental results presented in this paper indicate that optically driven phased array antennas with high performance and true time delay can be practically implemented. The paper concentrates on the potential performance of optically driven antenna systems using a coherent WDM architecture.

Optical Phased Array with Electromechanical Phase Shifters
Frontiers in Optics + Laser Science APS/DLS, 2019We propose a chip-scale optical phased array (OPA) enabling steering along two orthogonal angles using integrated electromechanical optical phase shifters. Initial experimental results from fabricated silicon nitride OPAs are presented.
