Fiber-Optic Angle Converter with Adaptive Error Correction of Non-Uniform Division of Optical Power

Measurement Techniques, 2015
We analyze instrument error caused by non-uniform input radiation into measuring channels of fiber-optic communication lines. We study the design of a converter, which implements an adaptive method of correction. The results of the experimental evaluation of the effectiveness of the developed hardware and software are presented.

Analysis of Probe Signal Power Dependence of All-Optical Wavelength Converter Using Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2001
We analyzed the influence of the probe signal power on the wavelength conversion in an interferometric all optical wavelength converter using semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs). The carrier density variation inside an SOA due to longitudinal signal amplification and nonradiative recombination is investigated and the following variation of ...

Optimal Synthesis of Quasi-Optical Converters for High Power Gyrotrons

2006 IEEE International Vacuum Electronics Conference held Jointly with 2006 IEEE International Vacuum Electron Sources, 2006
Quasi-optical launcher converter designs for high power gyrotrons use perturbations of the waveguide surface to convert the high order cavity mode to a Gaussian like beam. These designs of these converters is based on an analytic theory that specifies the mode amplitudes to obtain a Gaussian like distribution of the field in the azimuthal and axial ...

Monolithic GaAlAs/GaAs infrared-to-visible wavelength converter with optical power amplification

IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 1981
A monolithic wavelength converter has been constructed in the GaAlAs alloy system which comprises a wide gap emitter phototransistor and a double heterojunction (DH) light emitting diode (LED) in a bifacial configuration. The liquid phase epitaxy (LPE)-grown structure is capable of efficiently converting IR light with λ < 870 nm into the red spectral ...

Power Supply Control Strategy for Storage-converter-less Source-optical-storage System at the Edge of Power Grid

2021 IEEE 4th International Electrical and Energy Conference (CIEEC), 2021
The power supply system reliability at the edge of the power grid is often difficult to meet the needs of users. These main problems include low voltage and line failure. This paper proposes a source-optical-storage power supply system without an energy storage converter, which is composed of a photovoltaic converter, inverter, and energy storage ...

DC-AC photonic power converters with liquid crystal optical modulators

Optics Letters
In this Letter, we propose a power-switch-free (PSF) DC–AC photonic power converter (PPC) that utilizes liquid-crystal optical modulators (LCOMs) to commutate optical flux, thereby eliminating the need for power switches and avoiding switching-induced electromagnetic interference (EMI).

Window-temperature measurements on a high-power gyrotron with an internal, quasi-optical converter

Proceedings of International Electron Devices Meeting, 2002
Window-temperature measurements on a double-disc sapphire window have been performed during a series of high-power, long-pulse tests of a 110 GHz, internal-converter gyrotron using a 10-/spl mu/m, infrared camera. Details of the infrared-imaging setup will be discussed and the results obtained will be presented.

Wavelength dependence and power requirements of a wavelength converter based on XPM in an optical fiber

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO 2000). Technical Digest. Postconference Edition. TOPS Vol.39 (IEEE Cat. No.00CH37088), 2000
Summary form only given. All-optical wavelength conversion can play an important role in future ultra-high-speed networks due to the significant increase in flexibility and potential reduction in need for optical buffers. We have recently demonstrated a different cross phase modulation (XPM) based scheme to wavelength convert 40 Gb/s RZ data. The basic

Highly Efficient Quasi-Optical Mode Converter for a Multifrequency High-Power Gyrotron

IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 2009
A highly efficient quasi-optical mode converter with a bandwidth of 38 GHz has been designed and tested. The mode converter combines low-diffraction losses and a Gaussian mode content up to 97% for a set of nine modes in the range of 105 to 143 GHz for a 1-MW CW gyrotron.

A Modular Optical Firing Interface for CERN’s Generic Power Converter Control Platform

2019
The power converters group at CERN has developed a third generic converter controller (FGC3) and regulation platform (RegFGC3), capable of controlling any of CERN’s power converters. This platform provides electrical connections to the low-level control elements of power converters, and in some cases a galvanic isolation is required between the ...
