A simple fiber-optic radar calibration target is described. Its operation is based on a wideband fiber, a laser transmitter that is directly modulated by the down-converted radar signal and an optical diode receiver recovering said signal. Further up-conversion having a common local oscillator with the first mixer ensures fidelity of the calibration ...

Radar and optical measurements of Cn2
Applied Optics, 1982Comparison is made of C(2)(n) profile measurements obtained with a stellar scintillometer and uhf 440-MHz radar. The scintillometer C(2)(n) was obtained at altitude positions between 5 and 18 km, each with a broad height resolution. The radar C(2)(n) was obtained at 400-m intervals with 550-m height resolution.

Optical display for radar sensing
SPIE Proceedings, 2015Boltzmann headstone S = k B Log W turns out to be the Rosette stone for Greek physics translation optical display of the microwave sensing hieroglyphics. The LHS is the molecular entropy S measuring the degree of uniformity scattering off the sensing cross sections.

Optical fiber imaging laser radar
SPIE Proceedings, 2003We have developed the Optical Fiber Imaging Laser Radar based on the focal plane array detection using the small number of detectors less than the number of the focal plane array resolution. For this focal array detection, first, we made the optical fiber dissector which has one vertical cross section of the 35 x 35 optical fibers square array at one ...

Optical Simulation of Radar Ambiguities
IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 1970Coherent optical systems, because of their basic similarity to coherent radar systems, can be used to simulate many of the characteristics of the latter. This paper discusses the use of a coherent optical system for the simulation of the range and azimuth ambiguities that sometimes occur in radar systems.

Abstract : Progress is reported on a program to develop and build a 1 kW average power 10.6 micron amplifier for radar applications. Small signal gain and saturation measurements were made on 1-in. diameter amplifier tubes using a CO2- N2-He mixture with cw driving signals.

A Precise Optical Instrumentation Radar
IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 1966An instrumentation tracker is described which provides real-time positional data on high-speed cooperative targets with precisions of ±1 m at ranges between 300 m and 10 km. Unambiguous range is determined by a precise digital FM-CW ranging technique at a rate of 15 per second.

Detection efficiency of coherent optical radar
Applied Optics, 1984Using the Huygens-Fresnel principle, the detection efficiency of a coherent optical radar is formulated. This formulation includes the effect of misalignment between the signal field and the local oscillator field. In the far-field case, the detection efficiency of a diffuse target is approximately half that of a glint target when the transmitter and ...

Optically controlled phased array radar
International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics. MWP '96 Technical Digest. Satellite Workshop (Cat. No.96TH8153), 2002The experimental results presented in this paper indicate that optically driven phased array antennas with high performance and true time delay can be practically implemented. The paper concentrates on the potential performance of optically driven antenna systems using a coherent WDM architecture.
