Remote Optical Sensing

1990
Abstract : One of the major advantages of optical systems is their ability to process a great deal of information in parallel. The optical system discussed here transmits a complete image through a single optical fiber. This transmission system preserves the three-dimensional and color information of the image.

Acousto-optic imaging spectropolarimetry for remote sensing

Applied Optics, 1994
We review the operating principles of noncollinear acousto-optic tunable filters (AOTF's), emphasizing the use of two orthogonally polarized beams for narrow-band imaging. Spectral characterization and spectral broadening measurements of commercially available AOTF's agree with theoretical predictions and reveal difficulties associated with imaging ...

Simulation of optical remote sensing systems

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 1989
Research on understanding the remote-sensing process as a system and investigating the interrelated effects of various parameter is described. A system model for the simulation of remote-sensing systems is presented. The system is divided into three parts: the scene, the sensor, and the processing algorithms.

Optical remote sensing of heartbeats

Optics Communications, 1995
The deflection of a human vein due to heartbeats is recorded by two optical methods. In the first method the skin is directly illuminated by a 2 mW, HeNe laser beam in the neighborhood of the vein. The reflected speckle pattern is recorded with a TV camera and afterwards digitized frame by frame. Its contrast is then calculated by computer software and

Nature of optical remote sensing coefficient

SPIE Proceedings, 2004
The remote sensing coefficient or radiance reflection coefficient is a principal product of atmospheric correction algorithms applied to the remotely measured optical images of the ocean. This coefficient contains information about angular structure of light radiance, roughness of the ocean surface, and optical properties of the water.
