Monochromatic optical detection is often desired. One technique to accomplish this is to place the detector within an optical resonator. The authors consider the theoretical description of resonant optical detection using an intrinsic semiconductor detector layer placed within a monolithic vertical cavity.

This paper reviews the current level of theoretical understanding and experimental confirmation of the properties of unstable optical resonators for laser oscillators. A primary conclusion is that for any laser system characterized by a moderate gain per pass and a Fresnel number greater than a few times unity the unstable resonator provides the best ...

Chiral Light-Matter Interaction in Optical Resonators.
Physical Review Letters, 2015The Purcell effect explains the modification of the spontaneous decay rate of quantum emitters in a resonant cavity. For quantum emitters such as chiral molecules, however, the cavity modification of the spontaneous decay rate has been little known. Here

A technique, firmly based on a development from ray optics, is presented for calculating the loss due to the finite sizes of curved mirrors when these form an unstable optical resonator. If paraxial rays launched within such a resonator are confined near the resonator axis, the resonator is termed stable; otherwise it is termed unstable, and is known ...

Cross Resonant Optical Antenna
Physical Review Letters, 2009We propose a novel cross resonant optical antenna consisting of two perpendicular nanosized gold dipole antennas with a common feed gap. We demonstrate that the cross antenna is able to convert propagating fields of any polarization state into correspondingly polarized, localized, and enhanced fields and vice versa.

Resonance characteristics of fiber optic ring resonator in fiber optical resonator gyroscope
SPIE Proceedings, 1998In this paper, based on the typical example of fiber optical ring resonator which is constructed by connecting single mode fiber depend on fiber optic directional coupler, the resonance depth and finesse are discussed and their equation are derived too. Furthermore, the optimal resonance term are given and illustrated clearly in some curves.

Nanoengineering of optical resonances [PDF]
Abstract Metal nanoshells, consisting of a dielectric core with a metallic shell of nanometer thickness, are a new, composite nanoparticle whose optical resonance can be “designed in” in a controlled manner. By varying the relative dimensions of the core and shell, the optical resonance of these nanoparticles can be varied over hundreds of nanometers
