Calculations of optical rotation: Influence of molecular structure [PDF]
Ab initio Hartree-Fock (HF) method and Density Functional Theory (DFT) were used to calculate the optical rotation of 26 chiral compounds. The effects of theory and basis sets used for calculation, solvents influence on the geometry and values of ...

Continuous rotation of a cholesteric droplet under the heat gradient was observed by Lehmann in 1900. This phenomenon, the so-called Lehmann effect, consists of unidirectional rotation around the heat flux axis.

Imaging with parallel ray-rotation sheets [PDF]
A ray-rotation sheet consists of miniaturized optical components that function - ray optically - as a homogeneous medium that rotates the local direction of transmitted light rays around the sheet normal by an arbitrary angle [A. C. Hamilton et al., arXiv:0809.2646 (2008)].

Soliton spiraling in optically-induced rotating Bessel lattices [PDF]
We address soliton spiraling in optical lattices induced by multiple coherent Bessel beams and show that the dynamical nature of such lattices make them able to drag different soliton structures, setting them into rotation. The rotation rate can be controlled by varying the topological charges of lattice-inducing Bessel beams.

Design and application of intelligent optical rotation detection and remote monitoring system
An intelligent optical detection and remote monitoring system is designed based on the principle of physical optics. The system uses a microcontroller unit to control the polarizer movement, and uses the photosensitive sensor to detect the light ...

On optical rotation and selective transmission in ambichiral sculptured thin films [PDF]
The optical rotation and selective transmission spectrum of ambichiral sculptured thin films using transfer matrix method have been calculated. The results of optical modeling showed that optical characteristics ambichiral sculptured thin films are the same as chiral sculptured thin films in lower angular rotations.

Rotating surface soliton complexes in annular waveguides [PDF]
We address surface soliton complexes formed at the edge of annular guiding structures containing several concentric rings. Such soliton complexes feature a -phase difference between neighboring spots. It is shown that the multipole-mode solitons can rotate steadily upon propagation, and the existence domain is strongly affected by the rotation ...

Giant third-order magneto-optical rotation in ferromagnetic EuO [PDF]
A magnetization-induced rotation in the third-order nonlinear optical response is observed in out-of-plane-magnetized epitaxial EuO films. We discuss the relation of this nonlinear magneto-optical rotation to the linear Faraday rotation. It is allowed in all materials but, in contrast to the linear Faraday rotation, not affected by the reduction of the
