Learned Signal-to-Noise Ratio Estimation in Optical Fiber Communication Links

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2022
This paper proposes a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) estimator based on recurrent neural network (RNN) in optical fiber communication links. The proposed estimator jointly estimates the linear and nonlinear components of the SNR.

Estimation Uncertainties in the Optical Signal-to-Noise Ratio Network Optimization [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Microwaves, Optoelectronics and Electromagnetic Applications, 2016
In this work, we investigate the effects of estimation uncertainties in the optimization of the optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) at the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks.

Underwater acoustic signal acquisition based on optical interferometry in shallow water [PDF]

open access: yesAUT Journal of Electrical Engineering, 2023
Here, it is investigated the results of the implementation of an interferometric optical fiber acoustic sensor based on fiber Bragg grating (FBG). It is investigated the importance of different types of interferometer configurations as Michelson or Mach ...

Improvement of the Electro-Optical Process in GaAs for Terahertz Single Pulse Detection by Using a Fiber-Coupling System

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
The electro-optical process is a popular method for terahertz radiation detection. Detectors based on the electro-optical process have large bandwidth, and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is relatively high.

Improving the Performance of Optical Phased Array by Reducing Relative Intensity Noise of Optically Injection-Locked Laser Array

open access: yesPhotonics, 2022
Relative intensity noise (RIN) is an important factor that determines the performance of optical phased arrays (OPA) that are configured using semiconductor lasers as light emission sources. This study proposes a method of improving the optical signal-to-

Principle and Application of the C-OTDR

open access: yesGuangtongxin yanjiu, 2022
The traditional Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR) technology uses back Rayleigh scattering power for fiber detection. In transmission lines with optical amplifier, Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFA) are mostly used to compensate for the loss of ...

Signal-to-noise ratio in nonlinear optical amplification process [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 1990
In this communication, one looks at the influence of the saturation process over the statistical fluctuations (signal to noise ratio) of the optical power at the output of a travelling wave semiconductor optical amplifier (TWOA) . The statistical behaviour of this device is described starting from the photon density matrix equation.

Relationship between axial resolution and signal-to-noise ratio in optical coherence tomography [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2022
In optical coherence tomography (OCT), axial resolution and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are typically viewed as uncoupled parameters. We show that this is true only for mirror-like surfaces and that in diffuse scattering samples such as biological tissues there is an inherent coupling between axial resolution and measurement SNR.

Demonstration of Programmable In-Band OSNR Monitoring Using LCFBG With Commercial Thermal Printer Head

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2015
We proposed and experimentally demonstrated a programmable optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring scheme by using linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating (LCFBG) and a commercial thermal printer head.
