This study investigates the complex mechanics of individual electrospun polycaprolactone fibers under small and large strains. Combining experiments with a visco‐hyperelastic damage model, this work reveals and quantifies these fibers’ nonlinear behavior, including strain‐stiffening, viscoelasticity, and damage.

Prestraining the substrate influences coating formation process. Higher prestraining force leads to higher coating thickness and lower hardness. Increase in prestraining force enhances preliminary damage in hard anodic coating. Fatigue damage mechanisms change for hard anodized prestrained samples.

Zero Guard Band Multi-Twin-SSB System in Single Fiber Bidirectional PON Transmission
We propose a novel zero guard band (ZGB) multi-twin-SSB bidirectional passive optical network system which combines the multiband carrier-less amplitude phase and twin single sideband (SSB) modulation techniques. The multi-twin-SSB signal is generated at

Distributed Raman optical amplification in phase coherent transfer of optical frequencies
We describe the application of Raman Optical-fiber Amplification (ROA) for the phase coherent transfer of optical frequencies in an optical fiber link. ROA uses the transmission fiber itself as a gain medium for bi-directional coherent amplification.

Influence of the pinhole size on the resolution of the 4Pi' microscope studied by means of the optical transfer function [PDF]
Optical transfer functions are presented for the 4pi' microscope. The effects of the size of the confocal pinhole on the three-dimensional resolution are studied.

This work reveals the phase composition and quantitative morphology analysis of precipitation‐hardened Fe32Cu12Ni11Ti16Al29 complex‐concentrated alloy. The precipitates are shown to have a high coherency. Morphology transition between sphere, cuboidal, and elongated morphology is observed. Finally, the overaging behavior is captured using microhardness.

Intensifying the response of distributed optical fibre sensors using 2D and 3D image restoration
Optical fibres offer a way of sensing across a wide area, providing a spatial and temporal map of the measured parameter. Here, the authors use image and video processing to remove noise and increase the contrast in such a distributed optical fibre ...

Capacity Limitation and Optimization Strategy for Flexible Point-to-Multi-Point Optical Networks [PDF]
Point-to-multi-point (PtMP) optical networks become the main solutions for network-edge applications such as passive optical networks and radio access networks. Entropy-loading digital subcarrier multiplexing (DSCM) is the core technology to achieve low latency and approach high capacity for flexible PtMP optical networks.
