The Generalized Droop Formula for Low Signal to Noise Ratio Optical Links

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2020
We present a theoretical model that fully supports the recently disclosed generalized droop formula (GDF) for calculating the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of constant-output power (COP) amplified coherent links operated at a very low SNR.

Long Short-Term Memory Neural Network (LSTM-NN) Enabled Accurate Optical Signal-to-Noise Ratio (OSNR) Monitoring

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2019
Optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring is essential to both the operation of reliable and reconfigurable network and the supply of high quality-of-service.

Signal-to-noise ratio in optical photodiode receivers

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1974
The SNR of a frequency-compensated optical receiver is derived, and the validity of the assumptions used in the derivation is analyzed. A compensating circuit having a wide range of application in video receivers is suggested.

Nonlinear Signal-to-Noise Ratio Estimation in Coherent Optical Fiber Transmission Systems Using Artificial Neural Networks

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2018
For high symbol rate fiber optic networks, the estimation and monitoring of time varying link performance parameters are critical for delivering optimal network performance.

Analysis of signal-to-noise ratio in optical receivers

6th International Conference on Telecommunications in Modern Satellite, Cable and Broadcasting Service, 2003. TELSIKS 2003., 2004
The paper describes low noise preamplifiers designed for optical detectors. Analysis of operating conditions affecting signal to noise ratio has been carried out. Each preamplifier was carefully optimised to work with particular type of the detector.

Modal noise-limited signal-to-noise ratios in multimode optical fibers

Applied Optics, 1983
The problem of signal degradation due to spatial filtration in graded-index fibers excited by single-mode lasers is considered. In particular, a computer simulation of the interfering pattern is used to predict the signal-to-noise ratios which would be measured given some degree of vignetting at the detector end of the fiber.

Signal-to-noise ratio calculation in a moving-optical-wedge spectrometer

Applied Optics, 2012
In this paper we study the signal-to-noise ratio degradation in a moving-optical-wedge interferometer when used as an optical spectrometer. Both the mechanical vibration and temperature fluctuation effects are studied, and the effects are compared to their counterparts in a conventional Michelson interferometer.
