Optimizing the signal-to-noise ratio from a magneto-optic head

Optical Society of America Annual Meeting, 1990
In a magneto-optic head with differential detection, the light level on the data detectors is determined by the ratio γ2 of a semipolarizing beam splitter. The different noise sources in the system are analyzed, and their dependence on γ2 is determined. It is shown how to use this information to choose the value of γ2 that optimizes the SNR.

Signal-To-Noise Ratio Simulations For Small, Guided-Wave Optical Networks

SPIE Proceedings, 1987
Given the crosstalk and loss of a single optical directional coupler, we predict the Signal-to-Noise Ratios (SNRs) of switches made from interconnected couplers. Of the seven 4x4 architectures simulated, three are strictly nonblocking, two are nonblocking in the wide sense, and two are rearrangeably nonblocking. The simulation models each coupler in an

Enhanced signal-to-noise ratio in anti-PT-symmetric optical gyroscopes

2024 IEEE Photonics Conference (IPC)
Non-Hermitian sensors have attracted the recent attention, especially because of the high sensitivity of the eigenvalue splitting in the proximity of the exceptional point (EP). Here we demonstrate that an anti-parity-time-symmetric gyroscope could show an enhanced signal-to-noise ratio, with respect to conventional resonant gyroscopes.
