Microresonator solitons for massively parallel coherent optical communications
Optical solitons are waveforms that preserve their shape while propagating, relying on a balance of dispersion and nonlinearity. Soliton-based data transmission schemes were investigated in the 1980s, promising to overcome the limitations imposed by ...

Reservoir Computing for Few-Mode Fiber Channel OSNR Monitoring in Deep Learning Frameworks
This paper presents a novel optical performance monitoring (OPM) scheme based on reservoir computing (RC) and Resnet network for monitoring the optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) of few-mode transmission channels, without the need for any demodulation ...

A Joint OSNR and Nonlinear Distortions Estimation Method for Optical Fiber Transmission System
In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a joint optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) and a nonlinear distortions estimation method. The OSNR is calculated by considering either the link parameters or the correlation operations of the training symbols ...

Performance evaluation of single carrier 40-Gbit/s downstream for long-reach passive optical network [PDF]
This paper presents a new long reach PON (LR-PON) scenario operating at a single carrier of 40-Gbit/s for downstream, as an upgrade option of the LR-PON evolutionary strategy. An electrical 3-level duobinary modulation format was proposed for the 40-Gbit/

The performance of a gray‐coded dual polarization‐16 quadrature amplitude modulation (DP‐16 QAM)–based multiple input multiple output (MIMO)‐FSO link using coherent detection and digital signal processing (DSP) is investigated. The MIMO link is used to mitigate geometric loss, atmospheric attenuation, and atmospheric turbulence.
