Lattice assisted spectroscopy: a generalized scanning tunnelling microscope for ultra-cold atoms
We show that the possibility to address and image single sites of an optical lattice, now an experimental reality, allows to measure the frequency-resolved local particle and hole spectra of a wide variety of one- and two-dimensional systems of lattice ...

A Different Perspective on the Solid Lubrication Performance of Black Phosphorous: Friend or Foe?
Researchers investigate black phosphorous (BP) as a standalone solid lubricant coating through ball‐on‐disc linear‐reciprocating sliding experiments in dry conditions. Testing on different metals shows BP doesn't universally reduce friction and wear. However, it achieves 33% friction reduction on rougher iron surfaces and 23% wear reduction on aluminum.

Hubble Space Telescope Near-Ultraviolet Spectroscopy of the Bright CEMP-no Star BD+44 493
We present an elemental-abundance analysis, in the near-ultraviolet (NUV) spectral range, for the extremely metal-poor star BD+44 493, a 9th magnitude sub-giant with [Fe/H] = -3.8 and enhanced carbon, based on data acquired with the Space Telescope ...

Photon-number statistics with Silicon photomultipliers
We present a description of the operation of a multi-pixel detector in the presence of non-negligible dark-count and cross-talk effects. We apply the model to devise self-consistent calibration strategies to be performed on the very light under ...

Adjustable Plasmonic Core–Shell Nanoparticles for Personalized Color Vision Correction
This study introduces a personalized solution for correcting color vision deficiency (CVD) by embedding tunable core‐shell metal nanoparticles—a common nanotechnology—into contact lenses. By customizing the nanoparticles’ optical properties to filter specific wavelengths, these lenses address individual visual impairments, enhancing color ...

Periodic submicron features are fabricated on 304 stainless steel using single and double femtosecond laser pulses. By adjusting polarization, fluence, and inter‐pulse delay, 1D and 2D nanostructures are formed. Enhanced hydrophobicity and dense surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy hotspots enable analyte detection down to 10−10 M with good ...
