CdTe-Based Auston Switch for Optically-Driven Integrated Optics Devices
physica status solidi (b), 2002We report on the implementation and characterisation of Auston switches based on semi-insulating CdTe, aimed at optically driving integrated optics modulators. In view of applications, switching of voltages around a few volts in sub-nanosecond or picosecond time scale is required, while minimizing optical energy. Most efficient operation is obtained at

Solitons in Optical Switching Devices
2001The switching operation is one of the crucial functions of all information processing or information transmission systems. Some of them, like a communication network or a computer, are generally composed of connected switches. The vital simplification for optical systems would be a possibility to avoid multiple conversions of information from a ...

Integrated optical devices based on coupled resonator optical waveguides (CROW) for reconfigurable band routing are explored. A reconfiguration principle based on two bus interferometric CROW resonant structures is proposed. This device extends the functionalities of simple add-drop filters, adding more switching features.

Optical Switching Devices Using Redox Polymer Nanosheet
MRS Proceedings, 2004ABSTRACTOptical switching devices, which control the current direction by light stimuli, were constructed using redox polymer nanosheet assemblies. Two kind of nanosheet-photodiode, which can operate by different light irradiation wavelength were assembled in a series so that each current direction becomes opposite.

Optical switching device using leaky surface wave
IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1978The decay constants of leaky surface waves in an indiffused LiNbO 3 Y -cut plane propagation can be controlled by electro-optic effect. According to our calculation, we can obtain about 20 dB/ cm optical switching devices for applied electric field of 3 V/μm. Our experiments show that optical switching of 14 dB/cm can be obtained for 300 V/150 μm.

Extremely Low Switching Energy Optical Bistable Devices
Optical Engineering, 1986An all-optical bistable device and an electro-optical bistable device, with performances approaching the fundamental statistical limits, are described. In the all-optical approach, the giant nonlinearities associated with bound excitons in CdS are exploited to demonstrate the lowest-switching-energy (< 4 pJ) all-optical bistable device.

Switching Of Thermal-Optical Bistable Devices
SPIE Proceedings, 1988We have investigated the switching dynamics of thermo-optical devices, working at room temperature. Slowing down and transverse effects are studied for ZnSe interference filters and platelets of CdS.
