Transmitter Optimized Optical Networks
Optical Fiber Communication Conference/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference 2013, 2013Future optical networks will be resource limited and thus optical bandwidth and power must be used sparingly. This paper illustrates the potential network gains available by optimizing the transmitter power, constellation and DWDM channel allocations.

Optical transmittance of 3D printing materials
Applied Optics, 2021The increasing prevalence of three-dimensional (3D) printing of optical housings and mounts necessitates a better understanding of the optical properties of printing materials. This paper describes a method for using multithickness samples of 3D printing materials to measure transmittance spectra at wavelengths from 400 to 2400 nm [visible to short ...

Integrated silicon reconfigurable optical transmitter
Optics Letters, 2020We demonstrate an integrated silicon reconfigurable optical transmitter based on the reconfigurability of the Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI). By incorporating modulators into the tunable MZI structure and manipulating the operation states, different modulation formats, including amplitude/phase modulated binary/quaternary signals, as well as ...

Optical transmittance measurement system for coated elements with low transmittance
Applied Optics, 2012The low-transmittance elements required for a high power laser facility have stringent specifications about transmittance. To validate optic performance against specifications, a metrology system for transmittance is proposed. The system is composed of a laser source, an integrating sphere, a power meter, and four uncoated wedged glasses.

Characterization of objective transmittance for optical tweezers
Applied Optics, 2006We have measured the overall transmittance of a laser beam through an oil immersion objective as a function of the transverse size of the laser beam, using the dual-objective method. Our results show that the objective transmittance is not uniform and that its dependence on the radial beam's position can be modeled by a Gaussian function. This property
