Tuning the Dielectric Properties of Individual Clay Nanosheets by Interlayer Composition: Toward Nano‐Electret Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The dielectric properties of clays are studied on the level of individual monolayers and functional double stacks. The material breakdown characteristics and charge storage performance are analyzed. For illustration, a defined charge pattern representing a cuneiform character is produced, written into a microscopic clay tile, referencing the origins of

Modeling magneto-optical trapping of CaF molecules

open access: yes, 2015
Magneto-optical trapping forces for molecules are far weaker than for alkali atoms because the photon scattering rate is reduced when there are multiple ground states, and because of optical pumping into dark states. The force is further reduced when the

Optical trapping near resonance absorption

open access: yesApplied Optics, 2002
Expressions for radiation-induced forces are presented for the case of a Rayleigh particle near the focus of a Gaussian laser beam at near-resonant conditions. Classical electromagnetic theory was used to obtain the dependence of the scattering and gradient forces on the incident laser frequency, the beam convergence angle, and the spatial position of ...

3D‐Printed Sulfur‐Derived Polymers With Controlled Architectures for Lithium‐Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Rheology‐guided formulation design for direct ink writing enables the fabrication of 3D sulfur copolymer cathodes with controlled architectures for lithium‐sulfur batteries. The printed electrodes exhibit multiscale porosity and high sulfur utilization, delivering enhanced electrochemical performance compared to conventional cast electrodes.

Magneto-optical trapping forces for atoms and molecules with complex level structures

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2015
Laser cooling and magneto-optical trapping of molecules typically involves multiple transitions driven by several laser frequencies. We analyze how magneto-optical trapping forces depend on the angular momenta, F _l and F _u , and the g -factors, g _l ...

MOFs and COFs in Electronics: Bridging the Gap between Intrinsic Properties and Measured Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) hold promise for advanced electronics. However, discrepancies in reported electrical conductivities highlight the importance of measurement methodologies. This review explores intrinsic charge transport mechanisms and extrinsic factors influencing performance, and critically ...

Optical Assembling of Micro-Particles at a Glass–Water Interface with Diffraction Patterns Caused by the Limited Aperture of Objective

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
Optical tweezers can manipulate micro-particles, which have been widely used in various applications. Here, we experimentally demonstrate that optical tweezers can assemble the micro-particles to form stable structures at the glass–solution interface in ...

Interference scheme to measure light-induced nonlinearities in Bose-Einstein condensates

open access: yes, 2003
Light-induced nonlinear terms in the Gross-Pitaevskii equation arise from the stimulated coherent exchange of photons between two atoms. For atoms in an optical dipole trap this effect depends on the spatial profile of the trapping laser beam.
