Supersonic optical tunnels for Bose-Einstein condensates

open access: yes, 2007
We propose a method for the stabilisation of a stack of parallel vortex rings in a Bose-Einstein condensate. The method makes use of a hollow laser beam containing an optical vortex. Using realistic experimental parameters we demonstrate numerically that

Integrated Compact Optical Vortex Beam Emitters [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 2012
A Twist of Light The angular momentum of photons can be used to encode and transmit information. Cai et al. (p. 363 ) developed a method for generating and emitting controllable orbital angular momentum states of light from a reconfigurable ...

Artificial Intelligence in Systemic Sclerosis: Clinical Applications, Challenges, and Future Directions

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare autoimmune disease defined by immune dysregulation, vasculopathy, and progressive fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. Despite advances in care, major complications such as interstitial lung disease (ILD) and myocardial involvement remain the leading causes of morbidity and mortality.

Ring-broken optical vortices with an adjustable opening

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2019
A modified helical phase is presented in this paper. The generated vortex beams with the modified helical phases are characterized with ring-broken intensity distributions.

Vortex-vortex control in exciton-polariton condensates

open access: yes, 2017
Vortices are widely studied in fields ranging from nonlinear optics to magnetic systems and superconductors. A vortex carries a binary information corresponding to its topological charge, `plus' or `minus', that can be used for information storage and ...

Effect of interactions on vortices in a nonequilibrium polariton condensate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We demonstrate the creation of vortices in a macroscopically occupied polariton state formed in a semiconductor microcavity. A weak external laser beam carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) is used to imprint a vortex on the condensate arising from the

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Direction of energy flows at the focus of cylindrical vortex vector beams

open access: yesКомпьютерная оптика
In this work, we show analytically using the Richards-Wolf formalism and through the numerical simulation that at the sharp focus of a circularly polarized optical vortex, three energy flows occur: the direct longitudinal, reverse longitudinal, and ...

Synthesis of a Novel Thermoresponsive S53P4 Bioactive Glass Extract–Poloxamer 407 Injectable Hydrogels: Assessment of Biocompatibility and Antimicrobial Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates innovative thermoreversible hydrogels derived from S53P4 bioactive glass extracts to aid in the healing of infected diabetic foot wounds. These injectable gels, which gel at body temperature, release beneficial ions and remain stable over time.

Caustics of Non-Paraxial Perfect Optical Vortices Generated by Toroidal Vortex Lenses

open access: yesPhotonics, 2021
In this paper, we consider the comparative formation of perfect optical vortices in the non-paraxial mode using various optical elements: non-paraxial and parabolic toroidal vortex lenses, as well as a vortex axicon in combination with a parabolic lens ...
