Source misalignment in multimode polymer tapered waveguides for optical backplanes

open access: yes, 2007
Polymer tapered multimode waveguides were modeled using the finite difference wide-angle beam propagation method to investigate whether tapered input waveguide couplers decreasing in width away from the waveguide entrance give improved tolerance to ...

Forces on a Rayleigh particle in the cover region of a planar waveguide

open access: yes, 2000
We report on the optimization of a waveguide structure for the maximization of the radiation forces exerted on a Rayleigh particle in the cover region.

Non‐Volatile Silicon Mach‐Zehnder Switches with 0.7 π Phase Shift Based on Graphene Heaters and Sb2Se3 Phase Change Material

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) can deliver unparalleled performance for future neuromorphic computing applications. Such neuromorphic PICs require a large number of tunable switches, which are typically realized with current‐controlled heaters, resulting in considerable energy consumption.

Optical 8-channel, 10 Gb/s MT pluggable connector alignment technology for precision coupling of laser and photodiode arrays to polymer waveguide arrays for optical board-to-board interconnects

open access: yes, 2008
The paper introduces a low cost, precision alignment technique designed to be unaffected by temperature or process variations in the thickness of the PCB FR4 board, the thickness of the lower cladding between the PCB board and the waveguide core, the ...

Gain Characteristics of Hybrid Waveguide Amplifiers in SiN Photonics Integration with Er-Yb:Al2O3 Thin Film

open access: yesPhotonics
Integrated optical waveguide amplifiers, with their compact footprint, low power consumption, and scalability, are the basis for optical communications. The realization of high gain in such integrated devices is made more challenging by the tight optical

SU-8 Based Waveguide for Optrodes

open access: yesProceedings, 2018
Neural probes can be equipped with light for optogenetics applications. Different approaches are used for delivering light to the tissue: an optical fiber coupled to the probe, a µLED or a waveguide integrated on the probe.

Resonances in microstructured optical waveguides

open access: yesOptics Express, 2003
We propose a simple physical model that predicts the optical properties of a class of microstructured waveguides consisting of high-index inclusions that surround a low-index core. On the basis of this model, it is found that a large regime exists where transmission minima are determined by the geometry of the individual high-index inclusions.

Chip‐Integrated Metasurface‐GaAsSb Nanowire Array Photodetectors for Single‐Pixel Polarimetric Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A 2×2 multiplexed GaAsSb nanowire photodetector array integrated with L‐shaped metasurfaces is developed for miniaturized infrared polarimetry. Leveraging non‐radiating anapole states that facilitate near‐field enhancement, the device demonstrates strong polarization selectivity at 835 nm.

Integrated optical and electronic interconnect printed circuit board manufacturing

open access: yes, 2008
Introduction: At high bit rates copper tracks in printed circuit boards (PCBs) suffer severe loss and pulse distortion due to radiation of electromagnetic waves, dispersion and bandwidth limitations.
