Waveguide group velocity determination by spectral interference measurements in near-field optical scanning microscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Measurement of spectral interference with a near-field scanning optical microscope is used to determine directly the variation of group velocity between modes of a planar slab waveguide as the modes propagate along the ...

Invisible Polymer Walls Enhance Reorientational Optical Nonlinearity in Oligothiophene‐Doped Liquid Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The polymer wall stabilized dye‐doped liquid crystals (PWLCs) enhance the sensitivity of photoinduced molecular reorientation in dye‐doped LC systems. The PWLC with an invisible polymer wall successfully reduces the threshold intensity and functions as an optical limiter under the incidence of low intensity light laser source.

The femtosecond laser fabrication of waveguide structures in transparent crystals

open access: yesAPL Photonics
An optical waveguide is the basic structure of quantum optics, which has a strong confinement effect on light. It can complete the low-loss transmission of light and the enhancement of the nonlinear effect.

Optical characteristics of an oxyfluoride glass waveguide formed by a proton implantation

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2018
An optical waveguide was fabricated by H+ ion implantation with an energy of 400 keV and a dose of 8 × 1016 ions/cm2 in the oxyfluoride glass for the first time to the best of our knowledge. The dark mode spectra of the waveguide were measured by a prism

Optical fibre taper-enabled waveguide photoactuators

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
Despite promising devices, waveguide photoactuators actuating performances have been fundamentally restricted by the nature of standard optical fibres. To overcome these challenges, authors propose an optical fibre taper-enabled waveguide photoactuator ...
