Design and implementation of an electro-optical backplane with pluggable in-plane connectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The design, implementation and characterisation of an electro-optical backplane and an active pluggable in-plane optical connector technology is presented. The connection architecture adopted allows line cards to be mated to and unmated from a passive

Calculation of fully anisotropic liquid crystal waveguide modes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The accurate analysis of optical waveguides is an important issue when designing devices for optical communication. Waveguides combined with liquid crystals have great potential because they allow waveguide tuning over a wide range using low voltages. In

Positive‐Tone Nanolithography of Antimony Trisulfide with Femtosecond Laser Wet‐Etching

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A butyldithiocarbamic acid (BDCA) etchant is used to fabricate various micro‐ and nanoscale structures on amorphous antimony trisulfide (a‐Sb2S3) thin film via femtosecond laser etching. Numerical analysis and experimental results elucidate the patterning mechanism on gold (reflective) and quartz (transmissive) substrates.

Conservation of orbital angular momentum and polarization through biological waveguides

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
A major roadblock to the development of photonic sensors is the scattering associated with many biological systems. We show the conservation of photonic states through optically self-arranged biological waveguides, for the first time, which can be ...

Three‐dimensional Antimony Sulfide Based Flat Optics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents the development of a grayscale electron beam lithography (g‐EBL) method for fabricating antimony trisulfide (Sb2S3) nanostructures with customizable 3D profiles. The refractive index of g‐EBL patterned Sb2S3 is determined based on the synergy of genetic algorithm and transfer matrix method.

Fully embedded optical and electrical interconnections in flexible foils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper presents the development of a technology platform for the full integration of opto-electronic and electronic components, as well as optical interconnections in a flexible foil. A technology is developed to embed ultra thin (20 μ m) VCSEL's and

Roll‐to‐Roll Mechanical Exfoliation for Large‐Area van der Waals Films with Preserved Crystallographic Alignment

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A roll‐to‐roll exfoliation method is demonstrated that preserves the crystallographic alignment of anisotropic 2D materials over large areas, enabling scalable fabrication of directional electronic and optoelectronic devices. Abstract Anisotropic 2D materials such as black phosphorus (BP), GeS or CrSBr, exhibit direction‐dependent optical and ...

Optical Sensitivity of Waveguides Inscribed in Nanoporous Silicate Framework

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2021
Laser direct writing technique in glass is a powerful tool for various waveguides’ fabrication that highly develop the element base for designing photonic devices. We apply this technique to fabricate waveguides in porous glass (PG).
