1991When any of the dimensions or sizes of the components in an optical system is on the order of wavelength, then the methods discussed under geometrical optics do not give the proper solution to the problem. For this case, we must start from Maxwell’s equations, and derive the wave equation from which the proper solution to this problem can be obtained.

1988The vertebrate optic nerves, optic chiasm, and optic tracts contain axons of retinal ganglion cells. These axons connect the retina, where light absorption produces patterned neuronal firing, to the brain, where these firing patterns can undergo further processing.
