Optimal boundary feedback stabilization of a string with moving boundary

IMA Journal of Mathematical Control and Information, 2007
We consider a finite string that is fixed at one end and subject to a feedback control at the other end which is allowed to move. We show that the behaviour is similar to the situation where both ends are fixed: As long as the movement is not too fast, the energy decays exponentially and for a certain parameter in the feedback law it vanishes in finite

Optimizing Sentence Boundary Detection for Croatian

2012
A number of natural language processing tasks depend on segmenting text into sentences. Tools that perform sentence boundary detection achieve excellent performance for some languages. We have tried to train a few publicly available language independent tools to perform sentence boundary detection for Croatian.

Optimal orthogonal boundary filter banks

1995 International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2002
The use of a paraunitary filter bank for image processing requires a special treatment at image boundaries to ensure perfect reconstruction and orthogonality of these regions. Using time-varying boundary filter banks, we will discuss a procedure that explores all degrees of freedom of the border filters in a method essentially independent of signal ...

Optimal boundaries for Poisson mesh merging

Proceedings of the 2007 ACM symposium on Solid and physical modeling, 2007
Existing Poisson mesh editing techniques mainly focus on designing schemes to propagate deformation from a given boundary condition to a region of interest. Although solving the Poisson system in the least-squares sense distributes the distortion errors over the entire region of interest, large deformation in the boundary condition might still lead to ...

Globally Optimal Grouping for Symmetric Boundaries

2006 IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition - Volume 1 (CVPR'06), 2006
Many natural and man-made structures have a boundary that shows certain level of bilateral symmetry, a property that has been used to solve many computer-vision tasks. In this paper, we present a new grouping method for detecting closed boundaries with symmetry.

Elastic Boundary for Particle Swarm Optimization

2012
Standard particle swarm optimization (PSO) introduced in 2007, here called 2007-sPSO, is chosen as a starting algorithm in this paper. To solve the problems of the swarm's velocity slowing down towards zero and stagnant phenomena in the later evolutionary process of 2007-sPSO, elastic boundary for PSO (EBPSO) is proposed, where search space boundary is

Rearrangement Optimization Problems with Free Boundary

Numerical Functional Analysis and Optimization, 2014
This article is concerned with three optimization problems. In the first problem, a functional is maximized with respect to a set that is the weak closure of a rearrangement class; that is, a set comprising rearrangements of a prescribed function. Questions regarding existence, uniqueness, symmetry, and local minimizers are addressed.

Optimizing delay tests at the memory boundary

2015 IEEE International Test Conference (ITC), 2015
Delay faults on the inputs and outputs of memories embedded in an integrated circuit are difficult to cover efficiently in manufacturing test. A complicated approach, separate from standard digital logic tests or memory built-in self-test, is needed to target these faults and further improve manufacturing quality.

Optimizing boundary scan in a proprietary environment

Proceedings., International Test Conference, 2002
Boundary scan provides test engineers with a powerful tool for detecting both board-level and chip-level faults. The benefits of boundary scan can be diminished, however, when commonly used design and test generation tools are tied to a specific implementation (standard) of boundary scan.
