Adaptive rate-optimal detection of small autocorrelation coefficient [PDF]

open access: possible, 2009
A new test is proposed for the null of absence of serial correlation. The test uses a data-driven smoothing parameter. The resulting test statistic has a standard limit distribution under the null. The smoothing parameter is calibrated to achieve rate-optimality against several classes of alternatives.

Optimal Designs in Random Coefficient Linear Regression Models

Calcutta Statistical Association Bulletin, 1996
In this paper we consider a random coefficients regression model in the context of repeated measurements. The measurements are taken at consecutive points for several experimental units, and the total number of measurements have a fixed upper bound.

Image compression using DC coefficient restoration and optimal AC coefficient thresholding

Proceedings of 1997 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems. Circuits and Systems in the Information Age ISCAS '97, 2002
DC coefficient restoration scheme is a technique which can be used to increase the compression ability of transform image coding by not transmitting the DC coefficients but instead estimating them from the transmitted AC component. Rate-distortion optimal AC coefficient thresholding can allocate the bits to the AC coefficients efficiently with minimum ...

Using a multiple response optimization approach to optimize the coefficient of performance

Applied Thermal Engineering, 2016
Abstract Response surface methodology was employed to optimize the efficiency of a refrigeration cycle demonstration unit using a multiresponse optimization approach. Statistically designed experiments were conducted to simultaneously minimize energy consumption and maximize the refrigeration effect of a compression refrigeration cycle.

Optimal Control in Matrix-Valued Coefficients for Nonlinear Monotone Problems: Optimality Conditions II

Zeitschrift für Analysis und ihre Anwendungen, 2015
In this paper we study an optimal control problem for a nonlinear monotone Dirichlet problem where the controls are taken as the matrix-valued coefficients in L^{\infty}(\Omega; \mathbb R^{N \times N}) . Given a suitable cost function, the objective

Linear Quadratic Optimal Stochastic Control with Random Coefficients

SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization, 1976
The purpose of this paper is to apply the methods developed in [1] and [2] to solve the problem of optimal stochastic control for a linear quadratic system. After proving some preliminary existence results on stochastic differential equations, we show the existence of an optimal control. The introduction of an ad joint variable enables us to derive ...
