Optimal Crowdfunding Design [PDF]
We characterize optimal reward-based crowdfunding where production is contingent on an aggregate funding threshold. Crowdfunding adapts project implementation to demand (market-testing) and its multiple prices enhance rent-extraction via pivotality, even for large crowds, indeed arbitrarily large if tastes are correlated.

Packing irregular 3D objects in a cuboid of minimum volume is considered. Each object is composed of a number of convex shapes, such as oblique and right circular cylinders, cones and truncated cones.

An Optimized Covering Spheroids by Spheres
Covering spheroids (ellipsoids of revolution) by different spheres is studied. The research is motivated by packing non-spherical particles arising in natural sciences, e.g., in powder technologies.

Learning From Older Adults to Promote Independent Physical Activity Using Mobile Health (mHealth)
Background: Healthy aging is critically important for several reasons, including economic impact and quality of life. As the population of older adults rapidly increases, identifying acceptable ways to promote healthy aging is a priority.

On the optimal design of biased contests
This paper explores the optimal design of biased contests. A designer imposes an identity‐dependent treatment on contestants that varies the balance of the playing field. A generalized lottery contest typically yields no closed‐form equilibrium solutions,

A-optimal versus D-optimal design of screening experiments
The purpose of this article is to persuade experimenters to choose A-optimal designs rather than D-optimal designs for screening experiments. The primary reason for this advice is that the A-optimality criterion is more consistent with the screening ...

Radial Gradient Pressure Effects on Flow Behavior in a Dual Volute Turbocharger Turbine
The pressure gradient in the dual volute radial turbocharger turbines is the primary source of the vortices’ formation in rotor passages. The effects of the upstream non-uniform flow conditions on the development of secondary flows are not well known. In

Optimal design of rainbow elastic metamaterials
In this study, we present an optimization scheme for the resonator distribution in rainbow metamaterials that are constitutive of a Π-shaped beam with parallel plate insertions and two sets of spatially varying cantilever-mass resonators.
