OsGSK2‐OsTCP19 module regulating nitrate response and lateral root (LR) development. Low‐nitrate condition results in reduced BR response, accumulation of OsGSK2 and phosphorylated OsTCP19, which suppresses the expression of nitrate‐responsive genes and LR‐development genes and impairs rice growth.

An ontogenetic dietary shift is crucial for the survival and growth of piscivorous largemouth bass (LB). However, there is much to learn about the predator-prey interaction during the switching process.

Why do many animals move with a predominance of roughly forward directions? [PDF]
Animal movements can influence their ecology and demographics. Animal movements are often characterized by path structures with directional persistence.

Neuromodulator Dynamics Underlying Associative Learning in the Ventral Striatum's Olfactory Tubercle
Using fiber photometry and genetically encoded sensors, the dynamic release patterns of four neuromodulators in the olfactory tubercle (OT)—a brain region overlapping with the olfactory cortex and ventral striatum—were systematically monitored in response to external rewards and distinct reward‐associated learning processes.

Optimal phenotypic plasticity in a stochastic environment minimizes the cost/benefit ratio [PDF]
This paper addresses the question of optimal phenotypic plasticity as a response to environmental fluctuations while optimizing the cost/benefit ratio, where the cost is energetic expense of plasticity, and benefit is fitness.

Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.

Optimal foraging strategies can be learned
The foraging behavior of animals is a paradigm of target search in nature. Understanding which foraging strategies are optimal and how animals learn them are central challenges in modeling animal foraging.

Optimal Foraging Algorithm Based on Differential Evolution
The optimal foraging algorithm (OFA) was proposed by summarizing the rules of the animal foraging behavior in a group. Therefore OFA also has the defects of the swarm intelligence algorithm, such as easy to trap into local optimum and low convergence ...

Foraging as an evidence accumulation process
A canonical foraging task is the patch-leaving problem, in which a forager must decide to leave a current resource in search for another. Theoretical work has derived optimal strategies for when to leave a patch, and experiments have tested for ...
