Optimal load shedding: An economic approach

TENCON 2010 - 2010 IEEE Region 10 Conference, 2010
In this paper an economic criterion based optimal load shedding algorithm has been developed. The objective is to minimize the sum of curtailed load and also the total system interruption cost within the frame-work of system operational and security constraints.

Optimization of demand by load shedding concept for commercial loads

2016 International Conference on Electrical, Electronics, and Optimization Techniques (ICEEOT), 2016
Industrial revolution in India since last 25 years has resulted in paradigm shift of residential population from rural to urban. Thus urbanization and industrialization have resulted in unprecedented increase in electricity demand. A direct consequence of this increased demand is the immense pressure that is build up on national electricity grid due to

Optimization of load-shedding scheme in an integrated process plant

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1999
An integrated process facility recently went through an update of its existing load shedding scheme due to planned changes in the processes in the coming years. Transient simulations indicated that, by changing the load shedding philosophy, the frequency profile during power shortages could be improved significantly.

A Physarum-inspired optimization algorithm for load-shedding problem

Applied Soft Computing, 2017
Abstract Load-shedding is an intentional reduction approach which can maintain the stability of a microgrid system effectively. Recent studies have shown that a load-shedding problem can be solved by formulating it as a 0/1 knapsack problem (KP).

Optimal load shedding by a new binary PSO

COMPEL - The international journal for computation and mathematics in electrical and electronic engineering, 2016
Purpose The voltage stability is a basic principle in the power system operation. Different short circuits, load growth, generation shortage, and other faults which disturb the voltage stability are serious threats to the system security.

Optimal load‐shedding using local information

Electrical Engineering in Japan, 1996
AbstractThis paper describes an optimal load‐shedding policy based on quadratic programming using only some power system state variables after severe generation outages. When generation outage is severe, the imbalance between supply and demand causes a declining frequency. Utilities generators cannot be operated excessively at frequencies above normal.

Optimal location of shedding load at the adaptive UFLS

2010 IEEE International Energy Conference, 2010
Under Frequency Load Shedding, UFLS, is the last step and the most extreme in protecting electric power systems from black outs and severe damages. Load shedding relays are installed at constant locations in the system. These locations are usually substations feeding less important loads.

Bacterial foraging optimization algorithm for load shedding

2013 IEEE 7th International Power Engineering and Optimization Conference (PEOCO), 2013
This paper presents an optimization technique for optimal load shedding in power system. The technique is known as Bacterial Foraging Optimization Algorithm (BFAO). Load shedding is done by removing a certain amount of loads at appointed locations of a bus system.

Optimal load shedding methodologies in power systems

Conference Proceedings '88., IEEE Southeastcon, 2003
The current status of research on load shedding techniques is reviewed and the importance of relay setting is discussed. Alternatives for the future are also proposed. Future schemes should be able to precisely identify overload on a system and shed the necessary amount of load.

Optimal load shedding with dynamic market modeling

2002 IEEE Power Engineering Society Winter Meeting. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.02CH37309), 2003
Load shedding is one of the challenging problems in deregulated power systems. This paper studies the load-shedding problem with a dynamic power market model. To establish this model, the characteristic of the power market is analyzed first. Then the parameters in this model are estimated by a recursive weighted least square method.
