Optimal Expected-Case Planar Point Location

SIAM Journal on Computing, 2007
Point location is the problem of preprocessing a planar polygonal subdivision $S$ of size $n$ into a data structure in order to determine efficiently the cell of the subdivision that contains a given query point. We consider this problem from the perspective of expected query time.

The Optimal-Location Query

2005
We propose and solve the optimal-location query in spatial databases. Given a set S of sites, a set O of weighted objects, and a spatial region Q, the optimal-location query returns a location in Q with maximum influence. Here the influence of a location l is the total weight of its RNNs, i.e.

Determining optimal college locations

Higher Education, 1975
Relative location can be a critical determinant of the success or failure of a college. Central Place Theory, as developed in geographic studies of population distribution patterns, can provide insights into the problem of evaluating college locations. In this way the preferences of present and future students can be balanced against economic, academic,

Optimal Facility Location with Concave Costs

Operations Research, 1974
The following problem is considered: select plant sites from a given set of sites and choose their production and distribution levels to meet known demand at discrete points at minimum cost. The construction and operating cost of each plant is assumed to be a concave function of the total production at that plant, and the distribution cost between ...

Spatiotemporal AED Location Optimization

Circulation, 2015
Background: Mathematical optimization can be used to plan future AED placement to maximize out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) coverage. Many public access AEDs are placed in locations without 24/7 access. AED coverage can be overestimated unless temporal availability is considered. Objective: To develop a new spatiotemporal AED location optimization ...
