Lichen bleaching as a response to long‐term experimental warming in the High Arctic
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Lichens are an important component of Arctic ecosystems. Studies have indicated a decline in the abundance of Arctic lichens during recent decades, which is often attributed to competitive pressure from vascular plants.

Applications of polymatroid theory to distributed storage systems
In this paper, a link between polymatroid theory and locally repairable codes (LRCs) is established. The codes considered here are completely general in that they are subsets of An, where A is an arbitrary finite set. Three classes of LRCs are considered,

ABSTRACT Background Pre‐eclampsia is a leading cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. There are several determinants of individual pregnant women's risk of developing pre‐eclampsia, including biomarkers and ultrasound markers. Objective A conceptual framework to collate and summarise the extensive body of literature on biomarkers ...

To vary or not to vary: A flexible empirical Bayes factor for testing variance components
Abstract Random effects are the gold standard for capturing structural heterogeneity, such as individual differences or temporal dependence. Yet testing their presence is difficult because variance components are constrained to be non‐negative, creating a boundary problem. This paper introduces a flexible empirical Bayes factor (EBF) for testing random

Root trait dynamics of historical canola varieties under low and high nitrogen supply
Abstract Nitrogen fertilizer is a major input cost in crop production, making it crucial to enhance nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) to reduce fertilizer dependence without compromising yields. Root system architecture (RSA) is a key determinant of nutrient acquisition, particularly under nutrient‐limited conditions.

Optimal LRC codes for all lenghts n <= q
A family of distance-optimal LRC codes from certain subcodes of $q$-ary Reed-Solomon codes, proposed by I.~Tamo and A.~Barg in 2014, assumes that the code length $n$ is a multiple of $r+1.$ By shortening codes from this family, we show that it is possible to lift this assumption, still obtaining distance-optimal codes.

ABSTRACT Introduction Bonobos (Pan paniscus) are endangered and uncommon in managed care. Prothrombotic and hypofibrinolytic states are encountered with cardiovascular disease, ischemic stroke, and neoplasia. Materials and Methods Twelve bonobos from one institution were evaluated during anesthetized exams.

Optimal $(2,δ)$ Locally Repairable Codes via Punctured Simplex Codes
Locally repairable codes (LRCs) have attracted a lot of attention due to their applications in distributed storage systems. In this paper, we provide new constructions of optimal $(2, δ)$-LRCs over $\mathbb{F}_q$ with flexible parameters.

On the Combinatorics of Locally Repairable Codes via Matroid Theory
This paper provides a link between matroid theory and locally repairable codes (LRCs) that are either linear or more generally almost affine. Using this link, new results on both LRCs and matroid theory are derived.
