Uncertainty Assessment of Well Placement Optimization
Proceedings of SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 2001SummaryDetermining the best location for new wells is a complex problem that depends on reservoir and fluid properties, well and surface-equipment specifications, and economic criteria. Numerical simulation is often the most appropriate tool to evaluate the feasibility of well configurations. However, because the data used to establish numerical models

Optimal tactile sensor placement
Proceedings, 1989 International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2003By intelligently locating a tactile sensor with respect to a sensed object it is possible to minimize the number of sensed points required to identify or localize the object. The author applies principles of statistical decision theory to determine the optimal sensing location to constrain an object model, maximally based on any prior object ...

Sparse Sensor Placement Optimization for Classification
SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 2016Summary: Choosing a limited set of sensor locations to characterize or classify a high-dimensional system is an important challenge in engineering design. Traditionally, optimizing the sensor locations involves a brute-force, combinatorial search, which is NP-hard and is computationally intractable for even moderately large problems.

Placement Optimization for DSAL
2018In DSAL, each group of contacts (or vias) is associated with a GP. The number of member contacts and their relative position determine the shape of GP. Some GPs, for instance of those with asymmetric shape, have high DSA defect probability as addressed in Sect. 2.2, and have to be avoided.

Wind Turbine Placement Optimization
2017In this chapter, the concept of the turbine placement optimization problem is introduced. The basic problem is easy to describe: Multiple turbines i with the location t i for \( i = 1, \ldots ,N_{t} \) should be placed on a map with the size \( m = m_{x} \cdot m_{y} \). It is not about finding areas where wind turbines may be placed.
