Atomically Revealing Bulk Point Defect Dynamics in Hydrogen‐Driven γ‐Fe2O3 → Fe3O4 → FeO Transformation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ TEM uncovers the atomic‐scale mechanisms underlying hydrogen‐driven γ‐Fe2O3→Fe3O4→FeO reduction. In γ‐Fe2O3, oxygen vacancies cluster around intrinsic Fe vacancies, leading to nanopore formation, whereas in Fe3O4, vacancy aggregation is suppressed, preserving a dense structure.

Optimal stochastic control systems

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 1963
where X is the state variable, u is the control, and (a, 6) are prescribed for all time t of interest. The initial conditions for the system (1) are drawn from a Gaussian (normal) distribution of specified mean xO.and covariance 0:. Subject to certain constraints (to be specified) on u, we wish to choose a control policy which will minimize (in a sense

Universal Neuromorphic Element: NbOx Memristor with Co‐Existing Volatile, Non‐Volatile, and Threshold Switching

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A W/NbOx/Pt memristor demonstrates the coexistence of volatile, non‐volatile, and threshold switching characteristics. Volatile switching serves as a reservoir computing layer, providing dynamic short‐term processing. Non‐volatile switching, stabilized through ISPVA, improves reliable long‐term readout. Threshold switching operates as a leaky integrate

Maximum Principle for Stochastic Recursive Optimal Control Problems Involving Impulse Controls

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2012
We consider a stochastic recursive optimal control problem in which the control variable has two components: the regular control and the impulse control.

Spectrally Tunable 2D Material‐Based Infrared Photodetectors for Intelligent Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intelligent optoelectronics through spectral engineering of 2D material‐based infrared photodetectors. Abstract The evolution of intelligent optoelectronic systems is driven by artificial intelligence (AI). However, their practical realization hinges on the ability to dynamically capture and process optical signals across a broad infrared (IR) spectrum.

A Unified Pricing of Variable Annuity Guarantees under the Optimal Stochastic Control Framework

open access: yesRisks, 2016
In this paper, we review pricing of the variable annuity living and death guarantees offered to retail investors in many countries. Investors purchase these products to take advantage of market growth and protect savings.

Using a finite horizon numerical optimisation method for a periodic optimal control problem [PDF]

open access: yes
Computing a numerical solution to a periodic optimal control problem is difficult. A method of approximating a solution to a given (stochastic) optimal control problem using Markov chains was developed in [3].

Smarter Sensors Through Machine Learning: Historical Insights and Emerging Trends across Sensor Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights how machine learning (ML) algorithms are employed to enhance sensor performance, focusing on gas and physical sensors such as haptic and strain devices. By addressing current bottlenecks and enabling simultaneous improvement of multiple metrics, these approaches pave the way toward next‐generation, real‐world sensor applications.

Gaussian estimates on networks with applications to optimal control

open access: yesNetworks and Heterogeneous Media, 2011
We study a class of reaction-diffusion type equations on a finite network with continuity assumptions and a kind of non-local, stationary Kirchhoff's conditions at the nodes.
