Optimization of Maintained Systems
IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1980This paper formulates the problem of optimization of maintained systems with constraints on both availability and mean cycle-time. The objective function is the sum of recurring and nonrecurring costs. An example is solved using Fletcher's ideal-penalty-function algorithm which is also briefly described.

Optimization of hybrid systems

The control parameterization approach is examined in detail, where the possibility of mode switching within the hybrid system causes nonsmoothness in the Master problem, thus invalidating gradient based solvers.

On optimal modeling of systems

On Optimal Algorithms and Optimal Proof Systems
1999A deterministic algorithm O accepting a language L is called (polynomially) optimal if for any algorithm A accepting L there is a polynomial p such that timeO(x) ≤ p(|x|+ timeA(x)) for every x ∈ L. It is shown that an optimal acceptor for a language L exists if there is a p-optimal proof system for L.

Applied Optics, 1966The power signal-to-noise ratios for coherent and noncoherent optical detection are presented, with the expression for noncoherent detection being examined in detail. It is found that for the long range optical system to compete with its microwave counterpart it is necessary to optimize the optical system.

Optimality with hydropower system
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2002This paper studies an electricity producer's long-term optimality in the case of a multireservoir hydropower system. The model solves the optimal production process and trading strategy of electricity and weather derivatives by maximizing the utility from production and terminal water reservoir level.
