Two optimal general classes of iterative methods with eighth-order

open access: yes, 2014
Two new three-step classes of optimal iterative methods to approximate simple roots of nonlinear equations, satisfying the Kung-Traub's conjecture, are designed.

Limit-point buckling analyses using solid, shell and solid–shell elements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper, the recently-developed solid-shell element SHB8PS is used for the analysis of a representative set of popular limit-point buckling benchmark problems.

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

Abstract robust coarse spaces for systems of PDEs via generalized eigenproblems in the overlaps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Coarse spaces are instrumental in obtaining scalability for domain decomposition methods for partial differential equations (PDEs). However, it is known that most popular choices of coarse spaces perform rather weakly in the presence of heterogeneities ...

Intelligent Tutoring Systems for Adult Learning in STEM Disciplines

open access: yesNew Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) are reshaping adult learning in STEM by providing adaptive, data‐driven instruction across classrooms, workplaces, and informal environments. In the context of ITS, this article compares generative AI, which creates personalized explanations and practice materials, with explainable AI, which focuses on ...

On Traub–Steffensen-Type Iteration Schemes With and Without Memory: Fractal Analysis Using Basins of Attraction

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
This paper investigates the design and stability of Traub–Steffensen-type iteration schemes with and without memory for solving nonlinear equations. Steffensen’s method overcomes the drawback of the derivative evaluation of Newton’s scheme, but it has ...

Widening basins of attraction of optimal iterative methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
[EN] In this work, we analyze the dynamical behavior on quadratic polynomials of a class of derivative-free optimal parametric iterative methods, designed by Khattri and Steihaug.

Diffusion Spectrum Imaging Maps Early Axonal Loss and a Unique Progressive Signal in Neuronal Intranuclear Inclusion Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To delineate specific in vivo white matter pathology in neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID) using diffusion spectrum imaging (DSI) and define its clinical relevance. Methods DSI was performed on 42 NIID patients and 38 matched controls.

Preconditioning iterative methods for the optimal control of the Stokes equation

open access: yes, 2010
Solving problems regarding the optimal control of partial differential equations (PDEs) – also known as PDE-constrained optimization – is a frontier area of numerical analysis.

Feasibility and Tolerability of Performing Portable MRI for Neurological Disorders in an Outpatient Neurology Clinic: A Prospective Cohort

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Accessing brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be challenging, especially for underserved patients, which may lead to disparities in neurological diagnosis. Method This mixed‐methods study enrolled adults with one of four neurological disorders: mild cognitive impairment or dementia of the Alzheimer type, multiple sclerosis ...
