Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

Bi-Objective Optimization for Transportation: Generating Near-Optimal Subsets of Pareto Optimal Solutions

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Bi-objective optimization seeks to obtain Pareto optimal solutions that balance two trade-off objectives, providing guidance for decision making in various fields, particularly in the field of transportation. The novelty of this study lies in two aspects.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Grand-Canonical Optimal Transport

open access: yesArchive for Rational Mechanics and Analysis
We study a generalization of the multi-marginal optimal transport problem, which has no fixed number of marginals $N$ and is inspired of statistical mechanics. It consists in optimizing a linear combination of the costs for all the possible $N$'s, while fixing a certain linear combination of the corresponding marginals.

Optimal transportation between hypersurfaces bounding some strictly convex domains [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Let $M,N$ be two smooth compact hypersurfaces of $\mathbb{R}^n$ which bound strictly convex domains equipped with two absolutely continuous measures $\mu$ and $\nu$ (with respect to the volume measures of $M$ and $N$).

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

Traffic Control for Network Protection Against Spreading Processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Epidemic outbreaks in human populations are facilitated by the underlying transportation network. We consider strategies for containing a viral spreading process by optimally allocating a limited budget to three types of protection resources: (i) Traffic

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

Simple Unbalanced Optimal Transport

open access: yesInternational Mathematics Research Notices
Abstract We introduce and study a simple model capturing the main features of unbalanced optimal transport. It is based on equipping the conical extension of the group of all diffeomorphisms with a natural metric, which allows a Riemannian submersion to the space of volume forms of arbitrary total mass. We describe its finite-dimensional
