The optimality approach is a method for investigating evolutionary adaptations. It involves constructing one or more mathematical models based on the constraints and selective forces that are hypothesized to have generated a given trait by natural selection. The aim is not to demonstrate that traits are optimal.

Statistical classification methods based on consensus from several data sources are considered. The methods need weighting mechanisms to control the influence of each data source in the combined classification. The weights are optimized in order to improve the combined classification accuracies. Both linear and non-linear methods are considered for the

Optimal Taxation in Theory [PDF]
In this paper optimal income taxation theories are subject of investigation following the classic paper in public finance by Mirrlees (1971), than the models of Sadka (1976), Seade,(1977), Akerlof (1978), Stiglitz (1982), Diamond (1998), and Saez (2001), Piketty-Saez-Stantcheva (2014), all related to the classic paper by Mirrlees (1971). The problem is

Category Theory for Optimization
2018 IEEE 12th International Conference on Semantic Computing (ICSC), 2018This paper shows how concepts coming from category theory can help to improve the algorithms dealing with large set of data. Data structures can be modeled by functors that are related by natural transformations usable both to reduce data size or to shift an algorithm applicable to a particular data structure to an equivalent algorithm for another data

Learnability in Optimality Theory
Linguistic Inquiry, 1998In this article we show how Optimality Theory yields a highly general Constraint Demotion principle for grammar learning. The resulting learning procedure specifically exploits the grammatical structure of Optimality Theory, independent of the content of substantive constraints defining any given grammatical module.
