ePyDGGA: automatic configuration for fitting epidemic curves

open access: yesScientific Reports
Many epidemiological models and algorithms are used to fit the parameters of a given epidemic curve. On many occasions, fitting algorithms are interleaved with the actual epidemic models, which yields combinations of model-parameters that are hard to ...

Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

Securing federated learning: a defense strategy against targeted data poisoning attack

open access: yesDiscover Internet of Things
Ensuring the security and integrity of Federated Learning (FL) models against adversarial attacks is critical. Among these threats, targeted data poisoning attacks, particularly label flipping, pose a significant challenge by undermining model accuracy ...

A Survey of Methods for Gas-Lift Optimization

open access: yesModelling and Simulation in Engineering, 2012
This paper presents a survey of methods and techniques developed for the solution of the continuous gas-lift optimization problem over the last two decades. These range from isolated single-well analysis all the way to real-time multivariate optimization

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Application of reduced-set pareto-lipschitzian optimization to truss optimization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, a recently proposed global Lipschitz optimization algorithm Pareto-Lipschitzian Optimization with Reduced-set (PLOR) is further developed, investigated and applied to truss optimization problems.

A Novel circRERE/miR-27a-3p/Caspase9 Signaling Axis Promotes Cardiomyocyte Apoptosis in Ischemic Myocardium: Insights from Epigallocatechin Gallate-Primed Exosomes

open access: yesCells
Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) causes high mortality, with cardiomyocyte apoptosis playing a critical role. Although circular RNAs modulate cardiac disorders, related mechanisms remain unclear.

Calculation model for water influx and controlled reserves for CBM wells with high water yield

open access: yesPetroleum Research, 2018
Compared with conventional gas reservoir, percolation mechanism of coalbed methane (CBM) is completely different, it is remarkably affected by adsorption/desorption performance, pressure variation and coalbed characteristics.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...
