On the Problem of Optimal Cutting

SIAM Journal on Optimization, 2002
Let \(\Omega\) denote a smooth domain in \(\mathbb{R}^2\) (the membrane) in which two points \(A\) and \(B\) are fixed. The class of admissible cuts of the membrane is the set \(U=\{\Gamma \subset\overline \Omega:A,B \in\Gamma\), \(\Gamma\) is compact and connected\}, and for each cut \(\Gamma\) the associated energy is given by \[ {\mathcal E}(\Gamma)=

Optimality Conditions for Vector Optimization Problems

Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, 2009
The paper considers vector optimization problems (VOP) of the form \[ \min F(x) \text{ subject to } u_i(x) \leq 0, i\in\{1, \dots, m\}; v_j(x) =0, j\in\{1, \dots, n\}, \] where \(F:X \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^L\) and \(u_i, v_j: X\rightarrow \mathbb{R}\) and \(X\) is a Banach space.

On the Problem of Optimal Reconstruction

Journal of Fourier Analysis and Applications, 2007
Lower bounds are found for linear and Alexandrov's cowidths of Sobolev's classes on compact homogeneous Riemannian manifolds \(M^d\). Using these results, the authors give an explicit solution for the problem of optimal reconstruction of functions from Sobolev's classes \(W_p^r(M^d)\) in \(L_q(M^d)\), \(1 \leq q \leq p\leq \infty\).

On the Optimal Tracking Problem

SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization, 1992
Summary: The problem of optimally tracking a stochastic process based on noisy measurements through a window is being considered. Such a problem arises in a variety of applications where the field of view of the measuring device is limited (e.g., the ``aiming'' problem).

Noncoercive Optimization Problems

Mathematics of Operations Research, 1996
This paper modifies a recent sufficient condition for the existence of optimal solutions proposed by Buttazzo and Tomarelli, to obtain a condition that is necessary and sufficient. Applications to mathematical programming are given and stability results established.

The PrePack Optimization Problem

2014
The goal of packing optimization is to provide a foundation for decisions related to inventory allocation as merchandise is brought to warehouses and then dispatched. Major retail chains must fulfill requests from hundreds of stores by dispatching items stored in their warehouses. The demand for clothing items may vary to a considerable extent from one

On an optimal harvesting problem

Zeitschrift für Operations Research, 1983
Kaplan [1972] treated a harvesting problem as a discrete time stochastic control model with independent disturbances and with decreasing mean value increase depending either on the value or on the age of the asset. We consider the more general model where the mean value increase depends on the value and also on the age.

Conversion of optimal control problems into parameter optimization problems

Guidance, Navigation, and Control Conference, 1996
Summary: Several methods exist for converting optimal control problems into parameter optimization problems, and they are categorized by the unknowns of the parameter optimization problem, the numerical integration technique, and the order of the integration technique.

Optimization Problems Categories

2001
This work presents a categorical approach to cope with some questions originally studied within Computational Complexity Theory. It proceeds a research with theoretical emphasis, aiming at characterising the structural properties of optimization problems, related to the approximative issue, by means of Category Theory.
