Optimum Structural Design

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1968
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Structural design is discussed as related to the optimization of components and systems. The tools of mathematical programming (including nonlinear, linear, and dynamic programming) employed in the optimization process are treated. Illustrative examples are included.</div>

Discrete optimum structural design

Computers & Structures, 1988
Abstract This paper is concerned with some of the difficulties involved in the optimum design of engineering structures using only components which are available in discrete sizes. As an example the optimum design of trusses using rolled steel sections is used to critically examine several different methods and point out the snags in using them in a ...

D-Optimum Designs

2007
Abstract In this section we list a variety of results for D- and G-optimum designs. In 11.2 an illustration is given of the use of the variance function in the iterative construction of a D-optimum design. The following section returns to the example of the desorption of carbon monoxide with which the book opened. A comparison is made of

Optimum Bayesian designs

1992
Abstract Optimum designs for non-linear models depend on the values of the vector of unknown parameters θ. fn Chapter 18 this dependence was resolved by replacing Oby a prior point estimate θ0, use of which yielded locally optimum designs.

Explicit optimum design

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1982
Abstract The optimization of a trussed type structure of given geometry and material properties can be formulated as an exact and explicit mathematical programming problem in a mixed space of design variables and behaviour variables. Three techniques are presented, corresponding to the three classical analysis methods of structural theory.

Process optimum design

2013 5th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO), 2013
The objective of this article is to optimize the screen printing process. A comparison is made between the full factorial ANOVA, a one half-fraction design and the Taguchi technique to optimize the screen printing process. The Taguchi technique was the most powerful for this particular experiment.

Optimum shell design.

AIAA Journal, 1973
Comparison of two methods, namely Nedler and Mead's (1965) simplex method and Davidon's (1959) variable metric method, for achieving optimum design in terms of minimum weight for rotational shells under certain constraints. The superiority of one of the methods over the other is shown to depend, among other things, upon the form of the function to be ...

Optimum study designs.

Advances in genetics, 2001
Because simplistic designs will lead to prohibitively large sample sizes, the optimization of genetic study designs is critical for successfully mapping genes for complex diseases. Creative designs are necessary for detecting and amplifying the usually weak signals for complex traits.

Optimum Experimental Designs

1992
Abstract A well-designed experiment is an efficient method of learning about the world. Because experiments in the field and in the laboratory cannot avoid random error, statistical methods are essential for their efficient design and analysis. In this book, the fundamentals of optimum experimental design theory are presented.
