Tunable optofluidic birefringent lens
Soft Matter, 2016An optofluidic birefringent lens is demonstrated using hydrodynamic liquid-liquid (L(2)) interfaces in a microchannel. The L(2) lens comprises a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) phase and an optically isotropic phase for the main stream and the surrounding sub-stream, respectively.

In this chapter, we discuss the contributions of femtosecond laser micromachining to the fields of lab-on-chip and optofluidics. We show how femtosecord laser irradiation can be used to fabricate directly buried optical waveguides and, if followed by chemical etching, 3D microfluidic channels.

Optical storage capacity in devices such as DVDs is fundamentally restricted by the diffraction limit of light. We present an optofluidic approach which exploits nanofluidic manipulation of quantum dot cocktails to achieve spectrally multiplexed data storage in a traditional planar format.

Abstract Optofluidics can be characterized as the combination of microfluidics and optics. It is an emerging research field of growing importance for the realization of bio/chemical lab-on-a- chip systems with integrated optical light sources, waveguiding, and detection for some of the types of electromagnetic radiation listed in Table ...

Optofluidic variable focus lenses
Applied Optics, 2009Here we propose optofluidic spherical microlenses that can change their focal distance by varying the refractive index of the liquid that composes them. These lenses are fabricated in the bulk of a polymeric mixture. Results of a characterization study of the profile of the lenses, the image forming capability, and the behavior of the focal distance as
