Cancer of the oral cavity and oropharynx accounts for 4% of all cancers in men and 2% of all cancers in women. There has been no appreciable change in the incidence of oral cavity cancer over the past 30 years. The anatomic location with the greatest number of new cases is the mouth, followed by the pharynx, tongue, and lip.
