Metering of intravenous versus oral nutrients and regulation of energy balance
American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1976Unrestrained rats received continuous and discontinuous intravenous infusions of nutritive substances over long periods, and the effects on energy regulation were examined. Oral food intake was decreased by all glucidic infusions, but by less than the theoretical (caloric) value of the infused substances.

Influence of Temperature on the Emitted Dose of an Oral Metered Dose Inhaler
Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 1998The performance of metered dose inhalers is critical for the efficient delivery of drugs to the intended site of deposition in the respiratory tract. The temperature at which metered dose inhaler products are used by patients may influence the physicochemical characteristics of the emitted dose.

Oral thermal injury associated with puncture of a salbutamol metered‐dose inhaler in a dog
Journal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, 2012AbstractObjectiveTo describe the clinical features, diagnostic work‐up, treatment, and outcome of a dog with oral thermal injury secondary to chewing on a salbutamol metered‐dose inhaler (MDI).Case SummaryA Boxer dog was presented after chewing on a salbutamol MDI. The dog was anxious, tachycardic and had moderate hypokalemia.

Systemic Versus Oral and Gastrointestinal Metering of Fluid Intake
1975More than one and a half centuries after Dupuytren showed that the intravenous (I.V.) injection of water into a thirsty dog prevented drinking, the respective roles of systemic and of oro-gastrointestinal factors in the control of water intake are still disputed.

VALUE OF COMBINING B 2 SYMPATHOMIMETIC METERED AEROSOL AND ORAL THEOPHYLLINE IN CHILDREN WITH ASTHMA
Medical Journal of Australia, 1981We report the results of a double blind controlled trial on 12 children with clinical asthma. Each child received three different treatment regimens; terbutaline sulphate 0.5 mg (Bricanyl) via a metered aerosol; orally administered theophylline 5 mg/kg (Somophyllin); or a combination of both.

3M has formulated a new chlorofluorocarbon-free (CFC-free) beclomethasone dipropionate (BDP) metered-dose inhaler (MDI) with the use of the propellant HFA-134a (HFA). Lung deposition studies demonstrated that the HFA BDP MDI delivers to the lungs approximately 56% of the BDP dose (ex-adaptor), a substantially higher percentage than the 5-30% delivered ...

Patients with schizophrenia are most commonly treated with antipsychotic medications, often with the addition of anxiolytics. This study used an oral moisture meter to evaluate xerostomia in patients with schizophrenia taking typical and atypical antipsychotics, anxiolytics and non-psychotropic medications.Patients diagnosed with schizophrenia ...

After inhalation of a glucocorticoid from a meter dose inhaler (MDI), a certain portion of the delivered dose is deposited in the lungs, and the remainder is deposited in the oropharynx. To examine the absolute bioavailability of flunisolide given orally via metered dose inhaler, and metered dose inhaler with a commercially available spacer device as ...

Acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are managed with increased doses or frequency of the patient's existing bronchodilator therapy. The use of formoterol in the treatment of mild acute exacerbations of COPD has been suggested; however, a comparison of cumulative doses of formoterol with salbutamol, the gold standard ...

AbstractA fixed‐dose combination (FDC) containing mometasone furoate (MF) and formoterol fumarate (F) in a pressurized metered dose inhaler (MDI) is approved for asthma and is being developed for COPD. This randomized, open‐label, 4‐period crossover study compared single‐dose pharmacokinetics of MF 800 µg; F 20 µg; MF 800 µg + F 20 µg coadministered ...
